  1. I had a bit of spotting right at the beginning. I was worried but the gyno said it was just implantation bleeding...

  2. This pregnancy, thank God, has been great. My first one went ok, just high blood pressure, until about 32 weeks at an ultrasound. After hearing the tech say, oh, no, and rush out for the doctor, things went downhill. Referrals to specialists and hospitals gave us the news that our little girl had suffered a bleed in her brain (a hemorraghic stroke is the official diagnosis), causing brain damage and hydrocephalus (too much fluid in her brain). She would have to have surgery shortly after birth to place a shunt to drain it and she may never walk/talk/etc. Oh, and by now I had pre-eclampysia and would be induced at 35 weeks.

We were very lucky, our baby girl weighed 5 lbs 1 oz at birth and was pink and pretty. Surgery didn't have to happen until she was 5 months old and she is the smartest kid in her pre-K class. She has cerebral palsy but she walks and runs pretty well.

It was all so terrifying. I was 600 miles away from my family, since my husband is in the Army, and I had 7 ultrasounds and saw 5 doctors and had an amnio all in the space of 3 weeks. This pregnancy is being considered high-risk because of the problems with the first. We waited a long time, Gracie is 5 now, because she needed a lot of care and I was scared. Still am, really, but doctors say it won't happen again and this baby is awesome. I get an ultrasound every 4 weeks and I see the doctor every 2. So far so great.

I hope all goes well with your little one. I'll keep you and baby in my prayers.
